چکیده

Objective: Blood culture (BC) is gold standard for diagnosis of fungemia. Contamination BC a major problem worldwide, since it may delay actual diagnosis. The aim this study was to evaluate “contaminant” vials with prolonged incubation (max 30 days) antimicrobial supplemented media observe any mycological growth. Materials and Methods: Routine BCs optained patients XXX Hospital year period were included. Render System BC12-8 (Render Biotech Co. Ltd., Shenzhen, China) used. Contaminated reincubated conventionally-inoculated weekly four weeks total. In case growth, identifications done by PhoenixTM 100 system (Becton Dickinson, MA, USA) cornmeal tween 80 agar (RTA Laboratories, Kocaeli, Turkey). Antifungal susceptibility testing applied CLSI disk diffusion method. Results: 3.9% (235 sets additional 138 vials) total 6047 contaminated. Only one vial from central venous catheter showed fungal growth within the first week conventional inoculation (>8th day incubation). isolate identified as Candida guilliermondii complex susceptible caspofungin. Latter set patient positive in 3rd incubation. Conclusion: International guidelines recommend

Time to positivity of blood culture in newborn infants.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the minimum incubation time required to detect positive blood cultures from newborn infants with sepsis. Data were collected retrospectively on seventy-five positive blood cultures from newborn infants in the neonatal intensive care unit of Songklanagarind Hospital. The BacT/Alert Microbial Detection System had been used to culture the samples. Data wer...

Blood culture time to positivity in febrile infants with bacteremia.

IMPORTANCE Blood cultures are often obtained as part of the evaluation of infants with fever and these infants are typically observed until their cultures are determined to have no growth. However, the time to positivity of blood culture results in this population is not known. OBJECTIVE To determine the time to positivity of blood culture results in febrile infants admitted to a general inpa...

Positivity can cue familiarity.

Given that familiarity is closely associated with positivity, the authors sought evidence for the idea that positivity would increase perceived familiarity. In Experiment 1, smiling and thus positively perceived novel faces were significantly more likely to be incorrectly judged as familiar than novel faces with neutral expressions. In Experiment 2, subliminal association with positive affect (...

Efficiency of blood culture bottles for the fungal sterility testing of corneal organ culture media.

BACKGROUND/AIM The consequences of fungal contamination of an organ cultured cornea, though exceptional, are often disastrous for the recipient. Consequently, eye banks often quarantine corneas for 10 days or more before passing them for grafting. This period, though detrimental to the endothelial cell density of the delivered cornea, is necessary to detect contamination using conventional micr...

Time to blood culture positivity as a marker for catheter-related candidemia.

Candida spp. are important causes of nosocomial bloodstream infections. Around 80% of patients with candidemia have an indwelling central venous catheter (CVC). Determining whether the CVC is the source of candidemia has implications for patient management. We assessed whether the time to detection of Candida species in peripheral blood (time to positivity [TTP]) can serve as a marker for cathe...
